General information
The construction project comprising of the tunnel, pre-portal cuttings, jobsites,
dead-end track and temporary field camp is located on the “Road of Courage”
(“Trassa Muzhestva”) in the Abakan -Taishet section of the Krasnoyarsk Railway (Mansky and Kuraginsky Areas, the Krasnoyarsk Region).
The existing Krolsky one-track tunnel 2252,1 meters long was constructed in 1965.The maximum tunnel depth is 60 m. The tunnel longitudinal section is dual-slope.
The new tunnel runs parallel to the old existing one with the spacing of 36 meters between the centerlines.
Cast-in-place concrete and reinforced concrete are the materials used for construction of niches, chambers and portal walls. The pre-cast reinforced concrete segment lining is a supporting structure of the tunnel. While designing the lining, the estimated seismic hazard of 7 points was taken into account. The lining ring consists of 7 segments, one of which is a key segment. For clearance between segment rings and at the junction of chambers and niches aseismic joints are provided. Clearance between the lining and rock is filled with special mortar under pressure. Segment gaskets are used for waterproofing. Inner size of the pre-cast circular lining in straight and curved sections is the same.
30 May 2008, the tunnel excavation was completed.
This is the first railway tunnel in Russia that was excavated by means of a tunnel boring machine (LOVAT RME-375 SE with EPB).
