Tunnel site 1
On April, 6 2011 they finished excavation for full cross section of a road tunnel which is a part of the Tunnel site ¹1 in the combined traffic and rail road Adler – Alpika Servis. They started excavation in May 2009 by means of a road header and drill and blast. Length of the tunnel is 2296 m. Construction is being carried out by ZAO «US UGSK».
Tunnel site 3
On March,1 2011 they accomplish breakethrough of the service tunnel ¹2 on Tunnel site 3. Tunnel site ¹3 is the longest and the most complicated in the combined traffic and rail road Adler – Alpika Servis. The service tunnel was bored by a TBM Seli-Lovat RM 243DS 6,2 m in diameter. Totally they bored 3208,6 m.
Tunnel System 5
February 9, 2011 - excavation of the railway tunnel belonging to the Tunnel System 5 which is part of the combined (rail and traffic) road running from the city of Adler to the mountain resort Alpika-Servis was completed. The tunnel was excavated using the TBM Herrenknecht EPB-10690 (diameter - 10,69 m). The ceremonial breakthrough event was attended by representatives of the following companies and organizations: Transport Ministry of Russia, JSC Russian Railways, State Corporation “Olympstroy”, International Olympic Committee, International and Russian Tunneling Associations, as well as participants in the International Conference held in Sochi at that time and participants in the Sochi project construction.
Conference for Tunnel Builders
February 8 -10, the first international conference «Russian Experience and Development of Innovative Technologies for the Construction of Tunnel Projects in Sochi» took place in Sochi. The Conference was organized by the Russian and International Tunneling Associations with the assistance of JSC Russian Railways, JSC STROY-TREST and JSC Bamtonnelstroy. The Conference was devoted to advanced construction technologies, materials, and equipment specially developed, designed and manufactured for the implementation of the complex Olympic tunnel construction projects. More than 200 participants from Russia, Canada, Germany, Austria, France, Japan, Denmark, the USA, Italy and other countries took part in the Conference.
Tunnel System 1
December 10, 2010 - Ceremonial breakthrough of the traffic and railway tunnels belonging to the Tunnel System 1 which is part of the combined (traffic and rail) road running from the city of Adler to the mountain resort Alpika - Servis took place. These tunnels were broken through by drill and blast. The button for the last blast was pushed by the RF Vice President Dmitry Kozak. Among the participants were also - Chairman of the IOC Coordination
Commission for the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics Jean-Claude Killy, President of JSC Russian Railways Vladimir Yakunin, President of the Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee Dmitry Chernyshenko, Mayor of Sochi Anatoly Pakhomov and other officials.
This Tunnel System consists of the traffic, railway and service tunnels. The traffic tunnel length is 2,3 km. The railway tunnel length is 2,5 km. Both tunnels were excavated by conventional method from either portal.
Railway Tunnel 4 Breakthrough
November 2, excavation of the railway tunnel 4 upper bench (calotte) was completed. It is the fourth underground heading excavated under the Sochi Olympics preparation program. This single- track tunnel of 449 m is part of the combined (traffic and railway) road running from the city of Adler to the mountain resort Alpika-Servis. The tunnel excavation started in November 2009 and was carried out using roadheaders and drill and blast.
Tunnel System 6
November 2, 2010 – excavation of the upper bench of the railway tunnel 6 which is part of the combined (traffic and railway) road running from the city of Adler to the mountain resort Alpika-Servis was completed. This double-track tunnel will be located between two new railway stations – Roza Khutor and Alpika – Servis. 403 meters of the tunnel were excavated. At present, the lower bench is being mined and permanent lining is being assembled. The excavation is planned to be completed at the end of the 1st quarter of 2011. The tunnel construction is being carried out by BTS-Gidrostroy Ltd using roadheaders and drill and blast.
Tunnel System 3
October 29 – Tunnel Division 12 Ltd started the service tunnel excavation using the TBM Lovat RME 232SE (diameter 5,9 m) from the north portal. 2630 meters are to be excavated. Tunnel Division 18 Ltd is excavating the service tunnel section from the south portal using the TBM Seli-Lovat RM 243DS (diameter 6,2 m). By the end of October 1385 meters had been excavated.
Special Issue of METRO AND TUNNELS Magazine
On the occasion of the 35 th Anniversary of Bamtonnelstroy, Metro and Tunnels magazine published a special issue 4 devoted to Bamtonnelstroy - its history, current activities and plans for the future. Third Excavated Tunnel. Sochi 2014
July 9, 2010 – excavation of the railway tunnel 2 which is part of the combined (railway and traffic) road running from the city of Adler to the mountain resort Alpika - Servis was completed. The tunnel length is 122 meters. It was excavated from the north portal using mining excavators and drill and blast. The excavation was performed by UMGKR Ltd.
Robbins TBM started the Krolsky service tunnel excavation
June 1st – the ceremonial start-up of the Krolsky service tunnel excavation by means of the Robbins DS1413-301 TBM took place. The Krolsky railway tunnel excavation was completed in May 2008. It’s length is 2233,8 m. The service tunnel length is planned to be 2257,62 running meters. The service tunnel excavation is being performed by Tunnel Division 18 Ltd.
Second Excavated Tunnel. Sochi 2014
June 4, 2010 – excavation of the service tunnel which is part of the Tunnel System 5 located along the combined (railway and traffic) road running from the city of Adler to the mountain resort Alpika - Servis was completed. The service tunnel length is 2848 meters, its inner diameter is 3,7 meters. The tunnel was bored by means of the TBM Lovat RME 167SE. The excavation was performed by Tunnel Division 18 Ltd.
First Excavated Tunnel. Sochi 2014
May, 28 – on the north portal jobsite of the Tunnel System 1 the ceremonial event devoted to the service tunnel drive completion took place. Construction of all the tunnels located along the combined road running from Adler to the mountain resort Alpika Servis started with the excavation of this very tunnel in May last year. The President of JSC Russian Railways Mr. Vladimir Yakunin and the Vice President of JSC Russian Railways Mr. Oleg Tony were present at such a significant event.
Visit by IOC Experts
6-9 April, 2010 – the 8 th visit by the International Olympic Committee experts to all the tunnel construction sites located along the combined road running from the city of Adler to the mountain resort Alpika – Servis took place. The purpose of their visit was to see the current status of the tunnel construction, to check its speed and quality. Special attention was paid to the construction of the most complicated Tunnel Systems 1, 3 and 5.
Herrenknecht 10690 – Excavation Beginning
April 5, 2010 – the ceremonial start - up of the TBM Herrenknecht 10690 took place at the south portal jobsite of the Tunnel System 5, which is part of the combined road running from the city of Adler to the mountain resort Alpika-Servis. This 10,6 meter diameter TBM will bore the railway tunnel of 2872,7 meters. A total of 6 TBMs will be used for construction of the tunnels along this combined road - 3 TBMs for construction of the service tunnels and 3 TBMs for construction of the main tunnels.
Railway Tunnel 2, Sochi
In the middle of March 2010, excavation of the railway tunnel 2 which is part of the combined (traffic and railway) road running from the city of Adler to the mountain resort Alpika-Servis started. Being 121 meters long this tunnel is the shortest tunnel on this road, however, geological conditions are expected to be unfavourable. The excavation is being performed by UMGKR Ltd using roadheaders and drill and blast.
Rostekhnadzor visited the Olympic construction sites
February 17, 2010 the Central Department of Rostekhnadzor (the Russian Federal Service for Ecological, Technical and Atomic Supervision) inspected the projects of the Olympic transport infrastructure including the combined (rail and traffic) road from Adler to the mountain resort Alpika-Servis. The Tunnel Systems # 1, 3 and 5 were among the visited sites. The inspection was performed under the direction of the Chief Nikolay Kutin. As a result of the inspection, no major violations with respect to the construction were found.

Kuznetsovsky railway tunnel
The excavation of the new Kuznetsovsky railway tunnel has been already begun in the Komsomolsk-na-Amure – Sovetskaya Gavan section. The building was started in January 2009 with the excavation of the service tunnel with shield method using TBM Robbins DS1413-301. The new tunnel length is 3890 m. It will be one-way tunnel with concrete precast lining.
The excavation of the tunnel is performed by shield method either, using Lovat RME 375SE with the diameter of 9,5 m from the eastern portal side.
On the 11th of November the Council of the self-regulating organization Non-commercial partnership «MOD «SOYUZDORSTROY» decided to issue JSC «Bamtonnelstroy» a competency certificate for building, reconstructing and overhauling the capital construction projects, which can effect the operational safety.
The completion of the service tunnel excavation of the Kuznetsovsky railway tunnel
On the 16th of December 2009 festive occasions devoted to the completion of the service tunnel excavation took place on the Western portal of the Kuznetsovsky railway tunnel. The building of the service tunnel was started in January 2009, and its length is 3911 m. The driving was held using TBM Robbins DS1413-301, with the diameter of 4,3 m. The building of the object is held by LLC «Tunnel Division ¹12 - Bamtonnelstroy». General constructor – JSC «STROY-TREST».
Tunnel system 4, Sochi
At the beginning of November, excavation of the railway tunnel 4 which is part of the combined (traffic and rail) road from Adler to Alpika Servis started from south portal. Construction is being performed by "Caucasian tunnel construction company" Ltd. The one-track tunnel is 450 meters long. Its excavation is being carried out using "Mitsui Miike" roadheaders and drill and blast method.
Korshunovsky railway tunnel
In October 2009, reconstruction of the Korshunovsky tunnel started. The general contractor of this project is JSC STROY-TREST that concluded a contract with JSC Bamtonnelstroy for provision of engineering services under this project. The old Korshunovsky tunnel is located at the 549th km of the East Siberian railway in the Taishet - Lena section. It’s planned to reexcavate the tunnel using roadheaders and drill and blast method. The works are performed by Tunnel division 12 - Bamtonnelstroy Ltd.
Underground city 2009
October 19 – 22, 2009 The 6th International specialized exhibition "Underground City 2009" took place at the All – Russian Exhibition Center in Moscow. It was held as part of the 3rd International Forum "CITYBUILD-2009". The "Underground City" exhibition is a traditional, annual event which JSC Bamtonnelstroy participates in as an exhibitor. Also the international scientific - technical conference "Modern mechanization of works during tunnel construction and underground space development in large cities" was carried out under the Forum program. The Deputy General Director of the JSC Bamtonnelstroy Mr. Mikhail Belenky made a report at this conference.
Tunnel Systems, Sochi
In late September – early October 2009, construction of the railway tunnels of the Tunnel Systems 3 and 6 that are part of the combined traffic and rail road from Adler to Alpika-Servis started. Excavation of the railway tunnel 3 began with construction of a launching chamber for the Lovat RM 394DS TBM Ø 10,2 m using benching method. This TBM assembly started in October 2009.Construction of the railway tunnel 6 is being carried out from south portal using mining excavator. The railway tunnel 6 is the only double – track tunnel along this road, its width is 12 meters.
Nankhchulsky railway tunnel
September 8, 2009 the ceremonial commissioning of the Nankhchulsky railway tunnel took place. This tunnel is located between Novokuznetsk and Abakan in the Mezhdurechensk-Abakan section of the Krasnoyarsk Railway (Askiz area, the Republic of Khakassia).The tunnel was constructed in 1957. Its reconstruction started in 2002 after a new tunnel located 35 meters away was put into operation. The tunnel was reexcavated using drill and blast method. Its length is 2403 meters. The reconstruction works were carried out by Tunnel Division 22 and Tunnel Division 12 – Bamtonnelstroy.
The RF President Dmitry Medvedev visiting the Tunnel System #1
August 13, the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev had a meeting with student divisions on the job site of the Tunnel System #1. Students of these divisions came to Sochi to take part in construction of the Olympic Projects. During one hour, the President of the Russian Federation was discussing different problems of the student divisions with their leaders and was sharing his own experience with them. Also, among participants of this meeting were: the President of "GK Olympstroy" Taymuraz Bolloev, the RF Minister of Sports, Tourism and Youth Policy Vitaly Mutko, the Vice President of JSC "Russian Railways" Oleg Tony, the Head of DKRS – Sochi Evgeny Solntsev and also management representatives of construction companies, who are responsible for construction of the combined rail and traffic road from the city of Adler to the mountain – climatic resort "Alpika-Servis".
Reconstruction of the old Bolshoy Novorossiysky tunnel
Right after putting the new Bolshoy Novorossiysky tunnel into operation, reconstruction of the old Bolshoy Novorossiysky tunnel running parallel to the new one began. At the end of July, “UMGKR” Ltd started the tunnel excavation from the South portal.
Tunnel Systems - Sochi
At the end of July 2009, on the job sites of the Tunnel Systems #1 and #5 located along the combined (rail and traffic) road from Adler to “Alpika – Servis”, construction of the launching chambers was completed and excavation of the service tunnels started using TBMs. The service tunnel #1 (2420 meters long) is being constructed by means of the Lovat RME 232SE TBM, which was already successfully applied for construction of metro in the city of Novosibirsk. The service tunnel #5 is being constructed by means of the new Lovat RME 167SE TBM. Its length is 2800 meters. Construction of these service tunnels is performed by “Tunnel Division 18” Ltd.
Lagar – Aulsky railway tunnel
July 14, 2009 the ceremonial commissioning of the Lagar – Aulsky railway tunnel took place. Bamtonnelstroy started the tunnel reconstruction in September 2006. Putting this new tunnel into operation helped enhance the speed and safety of train movement in the Obluchye – Khabarovsk section. This ceremonial event devoted to the tunnel commissioning was visited by the representatives of the JSC “Russian Railways” - S. Epifantsev, M. Zaichenko, V. Krapivny, V. Karasev, A. Ramazanov; by the head of the Jewish Autonomous Region government - N. Volkov as well as by the Bamtonnelstroy’s management - V. Tur and V. Ilin. The commissioning ceremony was finished by moving a train through the new tunnel.
Bolshoy Novorossiysky railway tunnel
June 12, 2009 - The ceremonial commissioning of the Bolshoy Novorossiysky railway tunnel of the North Caucasian railway (JSC «Russian Railways») took place. At present, the 1st construction stage is completed including construction of the new single - track tunnel 1627,8 meters long and the service tunnel 1657,2 meters long. The construction was performed by two companies «UMGKR» Ltd - the General Director Viktor Shary and «US UGSK» Ltd - the General Director Vladimir Antoshchenko.
Sochi-2014. Tunnel system # 1
May 27, 2009 ceremonial commencement of the tunnel system # 1 excavation took place. The tunnel system includes 3 tunnels (railway, traffic and service ones).These tunnels are a major part of the 2014 Winter Olympic Games transport infrastructure. They are located on the combined (rail and traffic) road within Adler and the mountain-climatic resort Alpika –Servis. Taking into account the importance of these tunnels and the tight deadlines of their construction, simultaneous excavation of all three tunnels started 1.5 month earlier than it had been scheduled.
Exhibition «Intertunnel 2009»
March 18-20, 2009 - In Moscow, the "InterTunnel" Exhibition was held with the assistance and participation of the Russian Tunnel Association. This exhibition is the major Russia’s International Specialized Exhibition of new technologies, services and equipment for designing, construction and operation of tunnels. Being a participant of both the Exhibition and the “Transportation Congress”, which is a part of the program, Bamtonnelstroy has a unique opportunity to establish international business relationships as well as to get to know innovative technologies and services used in tunnel construction.
March 11, 2009 - At the request of Bamtonnelstroy, “Volga Dnepr” Airlines delivered the first shipment of the tunnel mining equipment necessary for construction of transportation infrastructure facilities for the Olympic Games 2014. This oversized cargo with total weight of 94 tons was delivered from Novosibirsk to Adler by An-124-100 Airplane.
Kuznetsovsk railway tunnel
January 2009, the excavation of the Kuznetsovsk service tunnel by means of the Tunnel Boring Machine Robbins DS1413-301 commenced. The length of the service tunnel is 3911 m. The construction complex, which includes a service tunnel, pre-portal cuttings and job sites, is located in the Vanino District of the Khabarovsk Region.
December 2008, excavation of the right main line tunnel between the “Vysotnaya” and the “Kopylova” stations was completed. 44 running meters of the “Kopylova” station were excavated with erection of cast-iron lining.
Sochi-2014. Tunnel complex # 5
November 2008, preparatory works started on the territory, allotted for the job site of the tunnel complex # 5. According to the design, the complex # 5 will include a traffic tunnel, a railway tunnel and a service tunnel.

International Forum “CITY BUILD 2008”
November 10 – 23, the fifth International Forum “CITY BUILD 2008” was held in the International Exhibition Center “Krokus Expo” in Moscow. Within the program of this forum the traditional exhibition “Underground city 2008” took place in which Bamtonnelstroy participated. During 4 days of the exhibition specialists of our company had discussions on various subjects with representatives of leading companies from Russia, Italy, France and Canada. According to the results of this event Bamtonnelstroy was awarded two certificates for the significant contribution to this project and also certificates and badges of honor for introducing innovative technologies into underground space development.
September 2008, construction of the approach road to the south portal of the tunnel complex # 1 started. This tunnel complex includes 3 tunnels – a traffic tunnel, a railway tunnel and a service tunnel. Excavation works are expected to begin in June 2009.
Maly Novorossissk railway tunnel
September 18, the breakthrough of the Maly Novorossiysk railway tunnel took place. The double-track tunnel, 525 meters in length, is constructed using benching method by means of roadheaders. The Maly Novorossiysk railway tunnel is located in the Krymskaya – Novorossiysk section of the North Caucasian railway. This project includes both construction of the new double-track tunnel and temporary conservation of the old existing one.
June, 20 putting into operation of Korshunovsk tunnel of East-Siberian railway was held. The tunnel is 30 meters away from the existing tunnel which was built in 1968-1973. Bamtonnelstroy started construction of a new tunnel in 2004. Length of the tunnel is 950 m.
Navaginsk railway tunnel
June 2008, excavation works of the Navaginsk railway tunnel were completed. This tunnel was excavated from both portals by means of roadheaders «Mitsui Miike MRH S-200» and «Alpine miner ÀÌ-75». Simultaneously with the excavation, the permanent reinforced concrete lining was assembled. The tunnel is expected to be commissioned in April 2009.
Kuznetsovsk railway tunnel
In the beginning of May on construction site of Kuznetsovsk railway tunnel (Komsomolsk-on-Amur - Sovetskaya harbour in the Far East) preparatory works were initiated and they started delivery of the construction materials for a camp. Construction of the tunnel will commence in July with boring of a service tunnel by means of a new tunnel boring machine Robbins DS1413-301 with 4,3 m diameter. Design length of Kuznetsovsk main tunnel 3890 m. Length of the service tunnel 3911,60 m.
Krolsky railway tunnel
Breakthrough of Krolsky railway tunnel, in Abakan-Taishet line. May, 30 in the eastern portal of Krolsky tunnel ceremonial event was held. Tunneling was carried out by means of the tunnel boring machine LOVAT RME 375SE 9,5 m diam. Length of the tunnel 2253,6 m.

Sochi – 2014
June 1, 2008 - The Contract was signed with USK MOST to begin the first construction stage of the combined (rail and traffic) road Adler-Krasnaya Polyana. It’s planned to start the temporary works that include construction of the production base, temporary buildings and facilities as well as temporary roads.
May, 20-22 in Turin, Italy international exhibition "Intertunnel 2008" dedicated to tunnel construction was held. "Bamtonnelstroy" was the only Russian construction company exhibiting there. This, therefore, attracted many visitors and exhibitors of the event. During three days of the show the company representatives negotiated on various subjects, in particular on tunnel machines, modern technologies and materials with the representatives of the leading manufacturers of Italy, France, Spain, England, Canada and USA. Tunnel ¹ 1
May 22, ceremonial commissioning of the Tunnel ¹ 1 took place. This tunnel is located in Adler-Tuapse section of the North-Caucasian railway. Its length is 589,4 meters. Construction of the tunnel was performed by the daughter companies: “UTSK” and “UGSK”. The tunnel was excavated by means of roadheaders. Film waterproofing and drainage facilities will provide ground water protection.
Kuznetsovsky railway tunnel
February, 19 2008 special partnership "STROY-TREST" and "BAMTONNELSTROY" was acknowledged as a winner in the open tender No468 with a right to make a contract for construction of a new Kuznetsovsky tunnel in the section of Komsomolsk-on-Amur - Sovetskaya gavan of the Far-Eastern railway. Construction is planned to start in Aipril 2008. Length of the tunnel will be 3 890 m.
Meeting with the Minister of transport of the Russian Federation I. Levitin
February, 16 2008 a meeting with the Minister of transport of the Russian Federation Igor Levitin was held. The issues raised were prospects of development of tunnel construction in Russia. The managers of the construction and design companies were present at the meeting. General director of "Bamtonnelstroy" Yury Prokayev made a report at the meeting.
Ulan Ude airport
December, 12 ceremonial commission of the second stage of the runway construction in Ulan Ude airport was held. Among participants of the celebration there were airport management, Buryat republic authorities, management of the Federal Agency of air transport, management of MOST constuction company, management of the airports of Siberia and Far East, management of JSC "Bamtonnelstroy" and Tunnel division #12.
Maly Novorossijsk tunnel
In the middle of October Bamtonnelstroy-south Ltd., a subsidiary of Bamtonnelstroy, started construction of Maly Novorossijsk tunnel. Construction is carried out by a roadheader from one portal.
Navaginsk railway tunnel
October, 15 2007 ceremonial breakthrough of the upper stage of Navaginsk railway tunnel was held. The tunnel is located in Armavir-Tuapse section of North-Caucasian Railway. Construction of the tunnel is carried out by Southern Mining Construction Company, a subsidiary of Bamtonnelstroy by means of the roadheaders in stages.
Maly Novorossijsk railway tunnel
"Bamtonnelstroy" was acknowledged to be a winner of the open tender #365 for reconstruction works of Maly Novorossijsk railway tunnel of the North-Caucasian railway. Construction is planned to commence in October 2007.
Bolshoi Novorossijsk tunnel
June, 28 in Krasnodar region near Novorossijsk there was a ceremonial breakthrough of the service tunnel for Bolshoi Novorossijsk tunnel. Length of the tunnel is 1665 meters. Construction was carried out by two companies, UM GKR and a subsidiary of US UGSK. Reconstruction of Bolshoi Novorossijsk tunnel which is located between stations Tonnelnaya and Gaiduck (789-791 km) started in 2005. It's length will be 1627,8 meters. The existing tunnel is 1389,4 was built in 1885-1888.
Since November 2006 Bamtonnelstroy started construction of the cable tunnel from Davydovskaya station in Moscow railway and in Kiev direction.
By the beginning of January assembly of the Tunnel Boring Machine LOVAT RME - 139 SE was finished. They started boring January, 5.
Flight-strip of the airport, Ulan-Ude, Buryatiya
December, 27 2006 commissioning of the Flight-strip of the airport, Ulan-Ude, Buryatiya was held. Works were performed as directed by standards. Ulan-Ude airport is the only one in Buryatia and one of the primary airports in Eastern Siberia and Transbaikalia.
Commissioning of the 2nd Jabsk tunnel
November, 9 2006 commissioning of the 2nd Jabsk tunnel in Abakan-Taishet section of Krasnoyarsk railway was held. Length of the tunnel is 752 meters. Construction of the main tunnel and a service tunnel was carried out by the subsidiaries Tunnel Division 22 and Tunnel division 12.
